Description
Red Wine: 1996 | Philip Togni | Cabernet Sauvignon
Distinctive for its coffee bean, herbal and complex berry flavors, this wine is intense, with a chewy core of currant and blackberry flavors. Best to cellar short-term, although it’s less rustic and backward at this stage than in previous vintages.

Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Each year Togni releases about 100 cases of a 10-year old Cabernet… It is a fabulous example of Togni’s visionary winemaking style. This inky/ruby/purple-tinged wine still tastes like a young adolescent. The extraordinary aromatics offer up scents of smoke, spices, sweet blackberries and cassis, saddle leather, and pain grille. With fabulous texture and sweet tannin, this remarkably young wine is a profound example of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon that should last for another two decades or more.
- Vinous: Togni’s 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate opens with extraordinary aromatics. The sweet tobacco, gravel, smoke, leather and spice notes that have developed in bottle are utterly captivating. Rich, deep and inviting, the 1996 simply has it all. With time, the 1996 has developed into a magnificent Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
Producer Information
Philip Togni Vineyard is a small, family-owned Napa Valley wine producer, focused on producing high-quality wine from Cabernet Sauvignon. It is one of the oldest producers of the Spring Mountain District AVA (American Viticultural Area). The wine collection is simple, featuring varietal Cabernet Sauvignon sourced directly from the estate. This wine has strong characteristics of Spring Mountain, quite tannic in its youth but shows its elegance with age. For the impatient, the second label Tanbark Hill is a Cabernet Sauvignon produced from younger vines on the property, and is more approachable in its youth. Additionally, there is a sweet wine in the style of Constantia called Ca’ Togni. The Philip Togni Vineyard was planted in 1981 by Philip Togni with his wife Birgitta, on an ideal ten acre (4 hectare) plot, 2000 feet (600 meters) above sea level. Today, Philip Togni is remarkably a self-contained producer, meaning that everything from vineyard management to winemaking, bottling and shipping is completed on site.
