Reviews:
- Jasper Morris: This vineyard is surrounded by others which do better planted with pinot, but Charles Ballot notes that at least where his vines are the clear white soil is more suited to Chardonnay. Certainly this is more chiselled and incisive than his blended Meursault with some citrus notes.
Producer Information
The properties belonging to these two families have been handed down through ten generations, resulting in this impressive collection of vineyards. Philippe Ballot and his wife, Aleth, can each point to two grandfathers who were vignerons. Their marriage united some of the Cote de Beaune’s holding belonging to Aleth’s side of the family, and are en fermage (rented) from her uncle. A portion of their production is sold to local negociants, but all wines are vinified, aged and bottled at the domaine. To taste there is to enjoy a rare level of hospitality.
