Juicy, offering chamomile, white peach, quinine, lemon curd and shortbread notes, all laced with a verbena thread on the rich and focused finish. Shows terrific range and energy. Drinkable now, but should broaden out with a touch of cellaring. Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne.

Reviews:

  • Wine Advocate: Now that it is in bottle, Pegau’s 2018 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvée A Tempo reveals itself as a rich, honeyed offering. Framed by tight, structural oak, this equal-parts blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne boasts scents of ripe peaches and melons, accented by hints of caramelized pineapple, cedar shavings and toasted hazelnuts. It’s full-bodied, broad and generous on the palate, yet somehow the finish comes across as refined, with enough citrus to provide length and focus. I’m a bit more suspect of its longevity than I was last year, but it should provide decadent drinking for at least the next several years.

Producer Information

Domaine du Pegau is a well-known and respected wine producer based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is known for its traditional-styled wines from that appellation, based on the Grenache grape variety. The estate had its beginnings under Elvira and Leon Feraud in the mid-1900s. However, the land the estate sits on has been cultivated with vines, olives and fruits since the 1600s.The domaine in its modern form was created by Paul Feraud, the son of Elvira and Leon, in 1987. He had previously produced and sold a small amount of wine each year to negociants around France. His daughter Laurence, back from her winemaking and wine business studies, convinced him to create an independently owned family domaine. Within a few years it was regarded as one of the best in the appellation.
