Gorgeous aromas of stone fruit and ripe cherries mingle easily with intricate notes of garrigue and pine needles in a wine that’s somehow full-bodied yet ethereal on the palate, with a long, tart, almost cranberry-ish finish. As always, it’s sourced from old-vine Grenache in the sandy soils of Pignan, Charbonnière and Mourre de Gaud, all clustered northeast of the village of Châteauneuf du Pape.

  • Wine Advocate: Still in concrete at the time of my visit, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Grenaches de Pierre looks to be another prodigious effort.

Producer Information

The estate was born from the passion of Pierre and Mireille, from the meeting of two families. Pierre Giraud is the son of a line of winegrowers over 6 centuries old. A descendant of the Armenier family, he has always worked his vineyard with passion. The Buou family had owned the village distillery for several generations, Mireille has always worked in unison with her husband for the development of the vineyard. Today, she is in charge of all the administration of the estate. The story begins in 1974 when Pierre and Mireille started to cultivate 4 hectares of vines as sharecropping.Over a period of 12 years, the estate gradually expanded with the acquisition of land for rent and sharecropping. In 1981, Pierre and Mireille transformed the family distillery into a wine cellar for the vinification and maturing of the wines. The same year they gave birth to their first vintage at the estate.
