Meet the producer
Bodega Garzón is a family-owned estate in Maldonado, southern Uruguay, recognised as a pioneer of premium Uruguayan wines. Led by owner Alejandro Bulgheroni and consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini, the winery combines sustainable practices, modern gravity-flow design, and meticulous vineyard management across 1,150 small plots, producing pure, terroir-driven wines. Bodega Garzón has earned multiple international awards, including Wine Enthusiast’s ‘New World Winery of the Year’ and LEED certification for its sustainable facilities.
Vineyard
The grapes come from hillside blocks just 11 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, with granitic, well-draining soils and cooling ocean breezes. The estate’s mosaic of microclimates, elevations, and soil types ensures steady ripening. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, with canopy management and minimal intervention in the vineyard promoting concentration and freshness.
Winemaking
After a five-day maceration on skins, fermentation occurs in large 150-hectolitre cement tanks at 26–28°C, with gentle pump-overs twice daily. The wine is aged 6–12 months on lees in 50-hectolitre, untoasted French oak casks to enhance texture and complexity, before bottling.
