Description
From Cairanne, the Southern Rhône’s newest Cru, Les Six is an elegant expression of six different grape varieties, blended in the tradition of yesteryear. The wine showcases freshness, layered fruit, and supple tannins, highlighting the complexity and finesse of hillside vineyards.
Meet the Producer
Boutinot has cultivated a close relationship with the Southern Rhône for over thirty years. Their vineyards in Cairanne are managed with respect for the terroir, focusing on low-yielding, old vines, some of which feature rare and ancient grape varieties.
Production
The vineyards of Cairanne are planted on chalky clay soils with steep slopes, where six grape varieties—Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise, and Carignan Noir—are hand-picked and carefully hand-sorted. Some varieties are co-fermented for added complexity. Vinification is traditional, with natural yeasts, manual pigeage, and gentle remontage in large 6,000-litre oak vats. The wine matures in the same tronconique for 10 months before bottling at the Domaine Boutinot cellars in Cairanne.
Tasting Notes
Full-flavoured and complex, the wine offers peppery red and black fruit aromas intertwined with a plush texture. The palate is supported by supple tannins and a vibrant, expressive finish, showcasing the elegance and freshness of the hillside vineyards.
Food Pairing
Les Six pairs beautifully with chicken and lamb dishes, particularly a herb-crusted rack of lamb featuring local Rhône herbs such as thyme, rosemary, oregano, marjoram, and sage. Roasted vegetables with the same herbs complement the wine, as do robust vegetarian dishes like a mushroom and lentil cottage pie.
