Description
Glen Albyn 15 Years 1963 – 1979 Dumpy Bottle
Glen Albyn is one of the legendary lost distilleries from Inverness, alongside Glen Mhor and Millburn. This bottling is a true piece of whisky history: a 15-year-old Glen Albyn, distilled in 1963 and bottled in 1979 by Wm. Cadenhead, Scotland’s oldest independent bottler.
Released in the iconic dumpy bottle style, typical of Cadenhead’s whiskies of that era, this expression was bottled at 45.7 GL (Gay-Lussac, equivalent to % ABV). It perfectly captures the robust and distinctive Highland style of Glen Albyn: bold, complex, and utterly unique.
Today, Glen Albyn bottlings are among the most sought-after rarities, with these early Cadenhead releases holding a special place in collectors’ hearts.

Glen Albyn Distillery
Glen Albyn Distillery was located on the banks of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1846 by James Sutherland, a local businessman and mayor of Inverness, the distillery had a strategic location that benefited from its proximity to waterways for transport.
A specific feature of Glen Albyn was the use of water from Loch Ness, which contributed to the unique flavour profiles of their whiskies. The distillery had a turbulent history with several closures and re-openings, especially during the economic depression and both World Wars. Finally, Glen Albyn closed for good in 1983 and was later demolished.
Glen Albyn whiskies were known for their light and delicate character, with subtle notes of flowers, orchard fruit. The whisky was mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensured a smooth and balanced flavour. Despite the distillery no longer existing, Glen Albyn whiskies remain sought-after among enthusiasts, collectors and investors because of their rarity and the unique history they represent.
