Description

GlenDronach 23years 1990- 2013 Single Cask #1240UK Exclusive

True to their tradition, The GlenDronach primarily uses carefully selected sherry casks handcrafted at renowned sherry bodegas from southern Spain (Jerez de la Frontera and Sanlúcar de Barrameda)

Origin and bottling

Each year, our Master Distiler, Billy Walker, specially selects a handful of individual casks from GlenDronach Distillery’s warehouses to be bottled as GlenDronach ‘Limited Release’.With maturing whiskies dating back to 1968, there is a huge selection of casks, hogsheads, puncheons and butts to choose from. Each of these casks displays truly remarkable characteristics, the malt whisky contained within having developed exceptionally during the long maturation process.Distilled on 5 September of the year 1990 and finally bottled especially for the UK in October 2013 after a 23-year maturation. Billy Walker personally selected cask 1240 and 647 bottles were eventually bottled.

Cask type

This Single Cask Whisky has spent 23 years on a Pedro Ximenez Sherry Puncheon. This cask has allowed this GlenDronach to gain unparalleled depth and enormous complexity.

Tasting note according to GlenDronach

Appearance

Dark oak with glinting gold.

Nose

Rich toffee and toasted almonds with stewed barley over a chocolate-raisin richness.

Palate

Huge dark raisins and stewed plums with a complex balance of herbs and spices. Espresso coffee and cocoa beans with hints of sweet barley sugar explode on the palate.

Glendronach Distillery

Glendronach Distillery is located in the valley of Forgue, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, Glendronach is one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland and is known for its rich tradition and craftsmanship.

A specific feature of Glendronach is its strong focus on maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. This gives the whiskies their distinctive deep, complex and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and spices. The distillery uses water from the Dronac Burn, which contributes to its unique flavour.

Glendronach uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and full-bodied spirit. Glendronach’s whiskies are known for their elegance and depth, with a long, warming finish.

Glendronach Distillery remains a highly respected name among whisky lovers for its dedication to quality and tradition and its production of exceptionally balanced Highland single malts.
