Description
A refined Syrah-Grenache blend from the historic Valréas region, this wine is hearty and structured yet surprisingly light on its feet. Elegant and approachable, it showcases the best of old-world Rhône winemaking, with dark fruit, spice, and freshness in perfect harmony.
Meet the producer
Valréas, a canton of Vaucluse, was founded in 1317 when Pope John XXII purchased the land to ensure access to the area’s exceptional vineyards. Domaine La Décelle works with south- and west-facing plots situated 320m above sea level, managed according to principles of reasoned agriculture. Alpine winds keep the vineyards cool, promoting slow, even ripening that enhances freshness and complexity.
Production
Grenache Noir and Syrah are planted in clay-dominated soils and vinified using the traditional rack and return method. Equal proportions of both varieties are blended and aged for six months in 2–3-year-old, 450-litre barrels, allowing the wine to develop depth and complexity while preserving vibrancy.
Tasting notes
Rich black bramble fruit aromas are complemented by warming spice and subtle smokiness. On the palate, concentrated bramble and woody herb flavours unfold with beautiful balance. Fine tannins provide a velvety texture, and a characteristic freshness carries through to a long, satisfying finish.
Food match
Pairs wonderfully with just-pink lamb chops with a herb crust, as well as roasted meats or hearty vegetable dishes.
