Description
Domaine Papagiannakos Erythros is a supple and fruit-driven red blending Greece’s classic Agiorgitiko grape with Cabernet Sauvignon, offering richness, freshness, and an approachable style.
Meet the producer
Founded in 1919, Domaine Papagiannakos sits in the Mesogaia plain of Attica, just 30km from Athens. Now in its third generation, the estate combines tradition with innovation, focusing on authentic Greek varieties and terroir-driven wines.
Production
The grapes – 70% Agiorgitiko and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon – are sourced from old vines on clay soils in gently sloping Peloponnese vineyards at around 300m altitude. After a 5-day cold soak, fermentation lasts 15 days at controlled temperatures. Each variety is vinified separately before blending, with 6 months spent in new French oak barrels to add structure and complexity.
Tasting notes
Aromas of ripe black and red fruits, with cassis from the Cabernet and bramble richness from the Agiorgitiko. The palate is finely structured and approachable, with silky tannins, subtle savoury notes, and a hint of liquorice on the finish, lifted by well-integrated oak.
Food match
Perfect with steak or lamb-stuffed peppers.
