Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the “Big 3” Single Malts in Scotland. Fortunately, they have achieved this scale without sacrificing quality. A change in UK labeling laws aced them out of their “Speyside” designation. But just because the British Parliament gerrymandered the “official” boundaries doesn’t mean Whisky-lovers have to pay any attention.
Their achievements are numerous — including setting the record price ever paid at auction for a single bottle of Scotch. They produce a very broad range of world-class Single Malt Whiskies that have a huge global following.
Have you ever had an “average” dram from The Macallan? We haven’t. Every sip from every bottle we’ve sampled over the last forever years has been great. And this is no exception.
The Macallan Classic Cut 2019 Limited Edition is the third in the series. This one clocks in a 52.9% ABV — one full notch higher than the previous year’s edition. There is no age statement (they cleverly use the word “timeless”), but not to worry. This is 100% pure Macallan Single Malt — some of their best casks — aged exclusively in that gorgeous Sherry-seasoned wood. And our sense of it is that it’s a blend of different vintages. Fine by us because this dram is lovely to the last. And, of course, there is no artificial stuff added.
