Thorsten and Steffi Melsheimer live with their family in the beautiful small town of Reil along the Mosel River. It’s as picturesque as you can imagine eastern Germany with its steep slopes covered by terraced vineyards, blue and red slate soils, dotted by small farmhouses. Thorsten works with his neighbors and within his own vineyards to create a biodynamic ecosystem to truly allow the noble Riesling grape to shine. He doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but rather he lets the grapes do the work for him, keeping a very hands-off approach in the cellar – the ‘Hand Werk’ is dedicated to this passion. Semi-sweet green apple notes are punctuated with acidity and the slatey minerality for which the Mosel is known.
